A Certain Justice PosterSYNOPSIS: Eight in every 10 children are abused by the age of 10. This heartbreaking statistic compels one man to act upon the injustices that countless souls have endured.

John Ryder (Jason Kistler) , a former policeman turned vigilante, is sought for the recent spree of murders involving known felons. His services are available for anyone who has lost a loved one to a violent crime or sexual offense. Disgruntled with the corruption in the justice system, Ryder has embraced his own personal loss and turned it into a resilient determination to bring atonement to those who deserve it.

His current mission: to bring down a corrupt CEO (Victor Grant, played by Bobby Christman) who viciously murdered a young woman. In Ryder's pursuit, he uncovers an intricate web of corruption and a blackmarket human cloning ring that Grant has spearheaded for years. Yet Ryder misjudges Grant's astuteness and Victor initiates how own offensive against Ryder. Grant uncovers Ryder's Achilles' heel... his sister's sensless murder 30 years prior.

Meanwhile, Ryder has taken on another case involving a scarred woman who seeks retribution against her parents' abuse. Ramona Baker (Melissa Greathouse) hires John to hunt down and murder them, yet from their undertaking comes a poignant crossing into their own pasts. When the two set off on their pursuit, they discover a common thread thatbinds them together. In their communion, the two realize that violence may not be the only alternative to silence their demons: rather, peace instead.
The FBI is assigned to find Ryder and bring him to justice. Their investigation discovers Ryder's father, who was estranged from his son since the murder of his sister. We begin to see the catalyst that destroyed the Ryder family. Yet the FBI could care less abour bringing a father and son back together; instead use the family's sorrow to its advantage. The scales of justice are grossly outweighed thanks to the overwhelming public support for John Ryder. The case against the modern justice system endorses Ryder's sense of righteousness, regardless of any law that stands in the his way. Torn between right and wrong, local law officers and the FBI clash over whom they should be chasing... Victor Grant or John Ryder.

After a heartrending showdown with Ramona's parents, she and John return to face the consequences of their violent actions. But before Ryder knows, Victor brings him face to face with the very act that made him who he is. Grant pledges to clonce Ryder's dead sister in exchange for an alliance. Grant gives an impassioned plea for a new era of black market cloning, suggesting that the two give life in place of taking it... thus cloning the victims themselves to give back to familes. The possibility intrigues Ryder, yet laces deep within his moral struggle; he finally comes to terms with his sister's murder, and kills Grant.

With Grant's web of evil destroyed, the FBI ultimately traps Ryder. Realizing his son's eventual fate, Ryder's father shatters the years of silence, over the police radio. The deep wounds from their embittered pasts surface just as Ryder agrees to the terms of his losing battle. But the FBI mistakenly perceives his surrender as a bluff and a piercing bullet rips through Ryder's chest. Cradling his son in his arms, the father tearfully reveals his sorrow and love for his son as the last breath of life leaves his son's body.

I origininally wrote the screenplay at the turn of the century, having just cancelled a very near and dear project called 'In My Life'. I was quite angry with many things at that time, and so naturally, much of that angst spilled over into the story. I remember specifically thinking "People don't want to see life affirming stories, so I'll give 'em just the opposite." Now looking back nearly four years later, I'm proud of what we achieved with so little. I had a great Assistant Director with Betsy Boatwright, and a reliable right hand man with Tony O'Dell... two staunch believers in me and the story we worked so hard to tell.

Upon completion of principal photography, a series of incredible events ravaged my life in ways never imaginable, thus delaying this release.

Many never believed this film would never be completed.

'A Certain Justice' is by far the darkest entry in the RACSO catalogue, but one that I am very proud of.
