SYNOPSIS
Late one night, behind an abandoned grocery store appears a frightened young woman. 911 calls indicated a quick series of bright lights and an explosion, yet the result was a lost young woman terrified by the sights and sounds of 2006. Seemingly out of place, the helpless girl races away in hopes of finding her way back home.
Bill Humes, a lifelong friend of Richard Williams, asks a favor upon visiting the young high school teacher of history. Police picked up a young woman wandering the streets, claiming to be Johnnie Hunt Morgan from the year 1887. Bill asks for Richard's input to repudiate the girl's ludicrous claim so police can locate her true family and return her home. The task seems easy enough as Richard agrees to help, but not before finding out who Johnnie Morgan exactly is.
After intensive research, Richard discovers the young woman to be the daughter of the infamous Confederate General, John Hunt Morgan from the War of Succession. And as ridiculous as the claim, Richard is mysteriously drawn to her hauntingly beautiful images taken from over a century ago. But before solving the mysteries of the past, Richard must first come to terms with his own life. The recent loss of his only remaining family cripples Richard, leaving him in emotional ruin.
Richard soon meets the mysterious woman face to face while under the care of Psychologist, Dr. Larry Hall. Her dialect and mannerisms are uncanny to late 19th century, but upon comparing her picture to the woman before him... the two are exactly identical. Upon meeting her, Richard isn't fully convinced she was lying. Her knowledge of history far surpassed his by all means. The detail of her life in Tennessee, her insight into her father's life... if left Richard not only dumbfounded, but also passionately attracted to her radiant beauty. If this was a lie, she obviously put a lot of time and effort into creating this fabricated plea.
Dr. Hall has a much different agenda for the young girl. Richard senses trouble, and quickly gets her out from under Dr. Hall's shrouded control. Richard lets Johnnie stay at his recently deceased grandfather's home while he continues to investigate her staggering claim. Enamored by her cultured manners and intoxicating beauty, Richard gradually begins to accept her extraordinary story. What if she really is who she says she is? The world around them doubts everything that cannot be explained... fearing what it cannot rationalize. Why not take the chance and actually trust someone for a change? Once he accepts her account, the two embark on an impassioned journey deep into their hearts and souls.
Doubt and questions dissipate over the following weeks as their courtship blossoms into an intense ethereal romance. Both learn of the others' needs in life... his is to let go of his loved ones death, and hers is to by some means see her long dead father from the past. Veiled in the sweet resonance of affection and passion, the two find healing in the warmth of true love. Despite the madness and chaos of the early 21st century, Johnnie reaches far into Richard's soul to calm the turmoil of his maniacal life. Computers, cell phones, the Internet... all of it leaves his soul polluted with emptiness. Finally recognizing the hollowness and grief in his life, Richard fully accepts Johnnie for who he believes her to be, no matter what the odds.
And the odds abruptly surface as Dr. Hall assigns a team of lawyers to bring Johnnie back to his care. In addition, Dr. Hall sets out to destroy Richard's career and livelihood with several insidious plots to fire him from his job, and financially ruin him. On an emotionally charged visit, Bill warns Richard that he is in danger, and should let Johnnie go back to the Hall's psychiatric ward.
Johnnie and Richard's love only strengthens as Richard does everything he can to protect Johnnie from Dr. Hall's army of lawyers and private henchmen. Yet it isn't enough, and sadly, Johnnie is legally forced back into the psychiatric unit under Dr. Hall's supervision. The heartbreaking separation leaves Johnnie emotionally impaired... leaving her an emotional vegetable.
Just when all hope seems to be lost, the FBI enter the hospital...
The entire situation is explained to Richard, and every word Johnnie said was indeed true. And after taking Dr. Hall into custody, the FBI inform Richard that Johnnie's condition is characteristic of other accidental time travelers caught in random discharges of global and solar energy laced throughout the planet. In essence, Johnnie's condition is nature's way of preventing time travel. Her vegetative state can only be cured by taking her back to 1887, which, according to the FBI scientists, her last chance to return is later that night.
But the final decision would be left to Richard... let the love of his life go back, forfeiting a promising life together... or leave her be, and hope that medicine and science can cure her ailment.
